Our focus in January has been on peace despite great conflict and fear in our streets, in our national and state Capitols, in our health facilities and in our own hearts.  It’s been like beginning a walk along the Oregon Coast only to be inundated by sneaker wave after wave.  We begin this week with a prayer of lament because many of us feel this way, but then we will explore the lyrics of the song, Oceans, by Hillsong UNITED and the commitments we long to make as followers of Jesus.

A song of Lament found in Psalm 69:1-3

Save me, O God!
For the waters have come up to my neck.
I sink in deep mire,
where there is no foothold;
I have come into deep waters,
and the flood sweeps over me.
I am weary with my crying out;
my throat is parched.
My eyes grow dim
with waiting for my God.

Pray:  You alone, O God, can rescue me from the deep waters that threaten to engulf.  Save me from my own weariness of spirit so that I can find renewed trust in You and a sense of peace that surpasses all understanding in Christ Jesus.
