St. Ignatius (1491-1556) taught that the Holy Spirit could speak to us and guide us through our emotions and taught his disciples to spend time each day to reflect on their emotions. He believed that leadings that were of God would lead to consolation, a lasting feeling of joy and contentment. Thoughts and plans which were not of God would be met by desolation, a feeling which bred selfishness, unholy sorrow and cheap joy. How might God be speaking to you through your emotions? Are there decisions you are making right now which you might ask God to reveal to you a leading through your emotions?
